We depend on the natural world for our fundamental needs like food, water, air and fuel, as well as ecosystem services like pollination, absorption of pollution, protection from natural calamities, combating climate change and so much more. Hence, the conservation of wildlife and their habitats is essential for our survival. Recognising this, Borrowed Planet directs its efforts towards advocacy and conservation of our biodiversity.
A member of the Bombay Natural History Society, Dev has been one of the youngest participants in their Leadership Programme, an intensive course on biodiversity conservation. His fundraising initiatives enable positive change for humans and our wild inhabitants. Through crowdfunding, Dev has supported the relief efforts of Habitat For Humanity. Funds raised for TRACT – a non-profit dedicated to tiger conservation in the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve of Maharashtra, have helped to equip Primary Response Teams in assisting forest officers and fringe village communities for the mitigation of human-tiger conflicts in the area.
In addition, proceeds from book sales of āOur Threatened Kinā¦ā have been donated towards Wildlife Trust of Indiaās conservation efforts. Infact, the contribution has directly supported WTIās Rapid Action Project for the recovery of the critically endangered Humpback Mahseer, a freshwater fish inhabiting the river basins of the Cauvery in India.
